Business and technology leaders from across Botswana and the broader region gathered recently for SAP Connect Day Botswana, a full-day event designed to help organisations translate the global momentum in AI, data and cloud into clear decisions and tangible business outcomes.
Nazia Pillay, Managing Director for Southern Africa at SAP, said the timing could not be more significant. “Organisations are no longer asking whether AI, data and cloud will shape the future of business. They are asking how to apply these technologies in ways that deliver measurable outcomes, strengthen decision-making and build trust. SAP Connect Day Botswana is an important platform for local leaders to explore how global innovation can be translated into practical strategies that support growth, resilience and sustainable transformation in the region.”
The event followed last month’s SAP Sapphire 2026, where SAP unveiled its vision for the Autonomous Enterprise, a new era in which AI agents, grounded in real business data and governance, execute core processes end-to-end, unlocking measurable value across finance, supply chain, human capital management and beyond. SAP Connect Day Botswana introduced global strategy to local audiences, with programming designed to help CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, CTOs and CHROs navigate complexity, capture new opportunity, and lead with confidence. Leading organisations from across Botswana attended, including Debswana, Lucara Diamonds, Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) and Botswana Water Corporation (WUC).
Sessions explored the themes shaping the next generation of intelligent enterprise: from establishing the foundational data and application platform that AI needs to deliver real outcomes, to breaking the proof-of-concept cycle that has stalled progress in many organisations. Discussions also addressed how trust and governance must underpin every technology investment, and how strategic partnerships are accelerating the journey toward full autonomy.
Pillay said the real value of enterprise AI depends on the strength of the business foundation beneath it. “AI can only deliver meaningful value when it is connected to trusted data, embedded into business processes and governed responsibly. This is where enterprises need to focus their attention. The goal is not AI for its own sake, but AI that helps people make better decisions, automate routine work, unlock new efficiencies and create stronger organisations.”
According to Pillay, organisations that establish strong data foundations and move to cloud-based platforms now will be best positioned to deploy autonomous capabilities as they mature, while also building enterprises that are more efficient, more resilient, and more competitive. “The organisations that will lead in the years ahead are those that can connect technology investment to business value. By combining trusted data, cloud-enabled processes, responsible AI and strong partnerships, businesses can become more agile, more resilient and better positioned to serve their customers, employees and communities.”
