MTN Group Fintech launches MoMo Financial Aid Kit to boost financial resilience in Zandspruit

Across MTN Group, the 2026 edition of 21 Days of Y’elloCare is anchored in a shared purpose: mobilising employee volunteers to deliver meaningful, community-led impact where it matters most. This year’s campaign. Themed Expanding Equitable Health for Every Community, brings employees together across markets to contribute their time, skills and resources towards improving lives – reinforcing MTN’s belief that collective action can drive sustainable change.

Within this broader Group effort, MTN Group Fintech is advancing a complementary mission, moving from enabling transactions to transforming lives. Under the initiative “Expanding Equitable Financial Health for Every Community,” Fintech is focusing on strengthening financial resilience, ensuring that access to financial services is matched with the knowledge and confidence to use them effectively.

In South Africa, this commitment comes to life in Zandspruit, a community that reflects both the challenges and opportunities facing many young people today. With high youth unemployment, rising living costs and limited access to financial guidance, Zandspruit represents a critical intervention point where practical financial education can unlock meaningful socio-economic participation.

Running from 1 to 21 June 2026, MTN Group Fintech will introduce the MoMo Financial Aid Kit, a targeted programme designed to equip young people and underserved communities with essential financial tools and knowledge.

The initiative goes beyond awareness, providing hands-on support through:

  • Financial literacy workshops
  • Mentorship and guided learning
  • Budgeting and money management tools
  • Access to simple, practical financial education resources

Participants will receive a Financial Aid Kit that translates complex financial concepts into everyday, actionable guidance – helping them build confidence in managing their finances and planning for the future.

MTN Group Fintech’s contribution underscores a critical truth: financial health is a key enabler of overall wellbeing. By improving financial literacy, individuals are better positioned to access opportunities, support their families, and participate meaningfully in the economy.

“At MTN Group Fintech, we are purposefully shifting from moving money to moving lives,” says Nikiwe Tanga, Chief Legal Officer at MTN Group Fintech. “Financial inclusion is not only about access to services – it’s about empowering people with the knowledge to use these tools in a way that improves their daily lives and long-term outcomes.”

The programme will be delivered with the active participation of MTN Group Fintech employee volunteers, who will contribute their time and expertise through workshops and community engagement – reinforcing our culture of service and shared value creation.

Mosa Pakane, Senior Manager: Corporate Affairs at MTN Group Fintech, adds:“Y’elloCare is where our purpose meets people. By combining financial education, digital tools and human connection, we are not only simplifying money matters, but we are also enabling real progress in people’s lives.”

Through initiatives like these, we continue to extend our impact – ensuring that more people are not just financially included, but financially empowered.

As the campaign unfolds, Zandspruit stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when community, collaboration and capability come together – turning access into opportunity, and transactions into transformation.
