Mzansi Mind advances South Africa’s sovereign AI ambitions with HPE infrastructure

Mzansi Mind selects HPE AI-optimized infrastructure and networking powered by NVIDIA to scale multilingual AI across financial, legal, HR, customer service and executive use cases

HPE (NYSE: HPE) today announced that Mzansi Mind (MzMind), a sovereign enterprise AI platform from Solcon Capital, has selected HPE AI-optimized servers and switches to power its Siya language model and Agentic AI framework. The platform is built to help organizations use AI in the languages their employees and customers speak, while meeting local business, regulatory and data-residency requirements.

The platform supports all official South African languages and combines the Siya model with an agentic framework that lets the AI agents reason, use tools and carry out multi-step tasks across enterprise workflows. The platform includes purpose-built AI agents for financial research and compliance, legal services, human resources, customer service, and executive decision-making strategies. While its initial focus is South Africa, MzMind is designed to extend to other African markets, languages and regulatory environments.

To support its sovereign AI ambitions, MzMind required high performance compute capable of efficiently serving and scaling AI models. The HPE solution comprises HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12 servers equipped with NVIDIA RTX PRO(™) 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, providing the accelerated computing performance required for MzMind’s AI inferencing environment. Hosted at Equinix’s co-location data center in Johannesburg, the solution, with unified management and automated operations features, gives MzMind greater control over the infrastructure supporting its AI workloads while providing a scalable foundation for future expansion.

MzMind has also implemented HPE Juniper Networking QFX5120 Switches to provide high-speed, low-latency and loss-less network connectivity with AI-optimized software for this infrastructure, connecting servers, storage and Agentic AI compute resources.

“Our ambition is to build an Agentic AI ecosystem that truly understands South Africa, from our languages and regulatory environment to the unique requirements of local organizations. Most importantly, it must be sovereign,” said Pramod Venkatesh, CEO Director for the Mzansi Mind Sovereign AI project, Solcon Capital. “HPE provides the infrastructure foundation we need to deliver these capabilities securely and at scale.”

“Mzansi Mind’s vision demonstrates the growing importance of sovereign Agentic AI capabilities designed around the specific needs of local organizations,” said Ahmad Alkhallafi, vice president and managing director, UAE & Africa, HPE. “By combining HPE’s AI-optimized infrastructure with NVIDIA accelerated computing, MzMind has a scalable foundation to deliver multilingual enterprise AI agents while maintaining the control and security, required for its sovereign AI ambitions. We are proud to support MzMind as it builds the next generation of AI capabilities for South Africa and beyond.”

The deployment establishes a high-performance foundation for MzMind’s sovereign AI platform and demonstrates how AI-optimized infrastructure can help African organizations develop and deploy localized AI while supporting greater control, scalability and security.

“Mzansi Mind’s deployment highlights how continued investment in digital infrastructure is helping create new opportunities for innovation, skills development and economic growth in Johannesburg and across South Africa,” said Sandile Dube, Managing Director, Equinix South Africa. “By locating its AI infrastructure within Equinix’s colocation environment in Johannesburg, Mzansi Mind can access the connectivity, resilience and digital ecosystem it needs to scale sustainably as demand grows.”

The infrastructure is designed to scale as demand grows, giving MzMind the capacity to develop and deploy new AI agents and applications faster and more cost effectively as it expands into additional African markets. The solution also includes HPE Tech Care Service to provide ongoing infrastructure support for improved reliability and performance.

The infrastructure is supplied through HPE’s Platinum partner, Datacentrix. Working with Solcon Capital from scoping and architecture through technology evaluation and deployment readiness, Datacentrix assessed a range of technology options against Mzansi Mind’s agentic AI requirements. Drawing on its AI expertise, Datacentrix recommended HPE based on the strength of its AI portfolio, services and ability to support Mzansi Mind’s performance and growth requirements.

“Our role was to translate Mzansi Mind’s agentic AI vision into a scalable, enterprise-ready solution,” said Ahmed Mahomed, Group CEO, Datacentrix. “HPE offered the right combination of AI-optimized infrastructure, services and support to meet its requirements today and provide a foundation for future growth.”
