South African AI Awards 2026

The South African AI Awards is set to take place in November 2026 in Johannesburg, the black-tie gala dinner will bring together more than 500 guests, including C-suite executives, government representatives, academics, and thought leaders from across industries. The evening will honour exceptional individuals and organisations across a range of award categories, highlighting how South Africans are using AI to drive progress, solve challenges, and create new opportunities.

The South African AI Awards 2026 will showcase excellence across business, technology, research, and social innovation. Categories include AI Startup of the Year, Research and Innovation, AI in Business Transformation, AI for Social Good, and AI in key sectors such as healthcare, education, finance, and agriculture. Additional awards will celebrate emerging talent, women in leadership, and the AI Personality of the Year.

Each recognition will highlight measurable impact, originality, and ethical application — showcasing the people and organisations driving responsible innovation. By celebrating these stories, the Awards aim to strengthen South Africa’s position as a leader in African technology and global AI dialogue.

Nominations will open in 2026. Individuals, companies, and institutions based or operating in South Africa are eligible to apply. Both self-nominations and third-party nominations will be accepted through an online submission platform. Entries will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges representing academia, business, government, and the technology community. The judging process will follow clear criteria, including innovation, measurable results, scalability, inclusivity, and ethical standards.

Finalists will be announced in October 2026, ahead of the Awards Gala in November, where honourees will be recognised for their outstanding contributions to advancing AI in South Africa.

Beyond recognition, the Awards aim to foster a stronger AI ecosystem that encourages collaboration and responsible growth. The event will serve as a meeting point for industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to share insights and explore partnerships that shape the country’s digital transformation journey.

The initiative’s theme — “Recognising the Power of AI to Build an Intelligent Future” — reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that technology serves people and communities, not just industries. It emphasises the importance of innovation guided by purpose, inclusivity, and accountability.

Partnership opportunities are now open for brands and organisations that want to align with innovation and leadership in technology. Sponsors and collaborators will benefit from strong visibility across national media, digital campaigns, and the event’s year-long communication rollout.

The 2026 edition will be supported by a multi-platform media strategy featuring nominee profiles, expert commentary, and behind-the-scenes storytelling designed to engage both professionals and the public.

The Awards Gala will feature a red-carpet reception, keynote addresses from industry leaders, fine dining, and live entertainment. Attendees will include senior executives, policymakers, investors, researchers, and entrepreneurs who are shaping the country’s innovation agenda.

Through this platform, the South African AI Awards 2026 will not only recognise excellence but also inspire continued growth and investment in AI-driven solutions that build a smarter, more inclusive future for all.
