Wetility Redefines Climate Tech with SAPVIA Award-Winning AI Mode Breakthrough in Collaboration with GoodWe

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – July 2025 – As groundbreaking innovations continue to redefine the global climate tech landscape, Wetility is setting a new benchmark for intelligent energy systems. This month, Wetility, South Africa’s leading solar-as-a-service provider, won the first-ever South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) Solar PV Research and Development (R&D) Award. This prestigious award was presented to Wetility for the company’s AI Mode innovation, a real-time energy optimization breakthrough now embedded across its solar systems.

Developed through a longstanding engineering partnership with global inverter manufacturer GoodWe, AI Mode marks a major leap in autonomous, data-driven power management. AI Mode dynamically shifts between solar and battery power in response to weather, usage, and load shedding patterns, delivering up to 90% energy savings automatically.

“We built AI Mode so our customers don’t have to choose between backup power and savings,” says Ikenna Oguguo, Chief Product Officer at Wetility. “Solving for South Africa’s unique energy realities pushed us to improve the core. The result is a smarter system, not just for Wetility, but for GoodWe’s global footprint too.”

The breakthrough is the product of a five-year technical partnership between Wetility and GoodWe, driven not by transactions but by trust, co-development, and a shared vision for scalable, affordable climate solutions.

The partnership began in 2019 when Wetility, then a startup, made the bold decision to work closely with GoodWe, prioritizing deep integration over vendor variety. Over time, engineers from both companies collaborated to re-designed inverter firmware, data engineering and software that could withstand most operating environments – including theft-prone and weak grid areas.

“I’d like to congratulate Wetility on the launch of AI Mode, a clean energy innovation,” says Daniel Huang, GoodWe’s founder and CEO. “We are proud to have worked with Wetility on this and looking forward to bring more savings, more power and more impact to South African homes.”

AI Mode is more than a feature. It demonstrates how climate tech innovation can unlock improved performance and customer experience at scale. Being recognised with SAPVIA’s Solar PV Research and Development (R&D) Award is an honour that reinforces this belief in building solutions that matter. At Wetility, research and development as well as collaborations such as the one with GoodWe, are an ongoing investment that’s not just about technology, but about impact.
